HOW TO REACH HILTON VIENNA PARK

From Vienna International Airport (VIE):

  • The Hilton Vienna Park is approximately a 30-minute drive from the airport (depending on the traffic). Taxis and ride-share services are available directly outside the arrivals area. Taxis between Vienna International Airport and central Vienna normally operate at fixed prices ranging from EUR 40 to EUR 45.
  • The Hilton Vienna Park sits directly next to Wien Mitte station, normally served by a direct connection via the City Airport Train (CAT) or the S-Bahn (S7). Please note that the regular CAT and S-Bahn (S7) services are currently affected by disruptions due to a cable fire and track closure. The S7 is therefore not running at all until Wien Mitte. The CAT is temporarily replaced by premium buses (“CAT on the road”) running several times per hour, non-stop, between the airport (Terminal 3, Bus Stop 1) and Wien Mitte (Marxergasse 1A). The journey takes around 30-40 minutes.
  • Trains from Vienna International Airport to Vienna Central Train Station remain in operation, with a travel time of 15 minutes (total 30-40 minutes travel time to Hilton Vienna Park).

Given these disruptions, we recommend building in extra time, or checking current departures before you travel.

Gala: The Grand Waltz – BARoque me Amadeus

Step into the grandeur of a classic Viennese ball, set against the opulent backdrop of the Hofburg’s Ceremonial Hall (Zeremoniensaal) – where emperors once received their guests and chandeliers still cast a golden glow over marble and gilt. For one night, we trade the courtroom for the ballroom, and let Mozart, mystery, and a touch of baroque drama set the tone for an unforgettable AIJA evening.

Expect beautifully set tables, live music, dancing, and the kind of hospitality Vienna has been famous for since the days of the Austrian emperors.

Dress Code: White Tie (optional) — gentlemen are kindly asked to wear either a dark suit or a tuxedo, with tailcoats being optional for those who would like to embrace the full White Tie tradition. Ladies are welcome in long evening gowns (optional), or simply an elegant, floor-length evening dress. For those who’d like to fully embrace the Viennese ball spirit, tailcoats, tuxedos, and gowns can all be rented locally — please let us know in advance and we’ll be happy to share rental options and details. Pro tip for the ladies: Vienna’s balls are famous for dancing well into the early hours! Wear shoes you’ll be comfortable dancing in all night — or consider bringing a pair of elegant flats or other comfortable change-of-shoes for later in the evening.

Velvet Dress — for women only

Velvet Dress is a luxury dress rental studio in Vienna that offers a variety of ball gowns.

Price:

  • Dress rental: With the code “HOFBURG26” you get 15% off dress rental when you book by August 21, and 10% off after that. The price of a dress ranges from EUR 170 to EUR 260.
  • Hair and makeup: €130 instead of €170 (anyone who rents a dress from Velvet Dress gets hair and makeup at this reduced rate)

Kleiderverleih Rottenberg — for men and women

Kleiderverleih Rottenberg offers a wide selection of elegant ball gowns for women as well as tailcoats for men, perfect for Viennese balls and other festive occasions.

Price:

  • Ball gowns: €170 — includes cleaning and modifications (length, straps, tightening/widening)
  • Tailcoat: €280 for a complete outfit — includes cleaning and modifications (sleeve length, pants length). A complete outfit includes: tailcoat jacket, white piqué vest, white tailcoat button-down shirt, pants, white bow tie, cufflinks, and buttons for vest and shirt.

Teller Herrenmode & Hochzeitsmode— for men only

TELLER is a renowned menswear store offering, among other things, a stylish selection of formal evening and ball attire for men.

Price:
The regular rental price for a tailcoat, including trousers, a shirt, and a waistcoat, is EUR 200. TELLER offers all gentlemen a 10% discount. A €100 security deposit and a €30 cleaning fee will be charged.

Delivery & Return:
The ordered clothes will be delivered to the Hilton Vienna Park free of charge. A fixed time slot for the return will be arranged for Saturday morning (29 August), so everything can be handed back in person and there is nothing to take care of after departure. Day Out: From Courtroom to Courtyard – The Castle Fair

Get ready to trade the conference halls for open skies, as we head to the stunning Schloss Hof, one of Austria’s most beautiful baroque palaces, nestled in the countryside just outside Vienna.

This year, we’re bringing the spirit of a traditional “Kirtag” — the Austrian countryside fair, full of good food, folk music, and lively celebration — right into the palace grounds. Think market stalls, hearty regional specialties, local wine and beer, and the kind of rustic, joyful atmosphere that has marked harvest and village festivals across Austria for centuries.

To make the day even more colorful, we invite all our international participants to come dressed in their local traditional clothing — whether that’s a Dirndl, Lederhosen, or the traditional dress of your own country and culture. Let’s turn the courtyard into a true celebration of diversity, heritage, and AIJA’s global community.

1. Imperial Vienna
a walk through the historical old town

For more than six centuries, Vienna stood as the primary residence of the prestigious Habsburg dynasty. The Habsburgs held grand titles like emperors, kings, archdukes, and princely counts, casting an imperial aura that completely transformed the city. Vienna’s skyline flourished with magnificent buildings and revered landmarks, creating a tapestry of historical significance. The life of Vienna, deeply rooted in history, overflowed with stories about its most renowned inhabitants: the imperial family. Our journey begins at the Imperial Palace, a former winter haven nestled in the historic old town, setting the stage for a narrative filled with captivating anecdotes. As we stroll along the opulent Kohlmarkt, Vienna’s premier shopping boulevard, we make our way to the Graben, where the Holy Trinity Column stands in majestic splendor. Interestingly, the Graben, which translates to “trench” in English, was once part of the city fortifications encircling the ancient Roman settlement of “Vindobona.”

Our path then leads us to Vienna’s crowning jewel: St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Remarkably, this Gothic masterpiece graced the cityscape long before the Habsburgs ascended to the imperial throne, infusing Vienna with an enduring charm.

2. The Imperial Palace
and its former inhabitants

Join us for an immersive journey into the heart of Vienna’s history as we delve into the lavish Imperial Apartments at the Imperial Palace, featuring a special exhibition dedicated to Sisi. The Imperial Palace not only served as the hub of the Habsburg Empire for over six centuries but also functioned as the primary residence of the Habsburgs.

Right next to the Imperial Palace stands St. Augustine’s Church, where numerous Habsburg weddings were solemnized, including the iconic marriage of Sisi and Emperor Francis Joseph. This exceptional church also houses the preserved hearts of the Habsburg Dynasty.

Optional (depends on timing): Just a few steps away, you’ll discover the renowned Spanish Riding School, where the graceful white Lipizzaner horses call home.

Joseph Haydn, a mentor to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a teacher to Ludwig Van Beethoven, laid the foundation for the rich Viennese musical tradition we cherish today.

As you embark on this captivating journey, you’ll explore key sites that have played a pivotal role in Vienna’s musical history while passing by iconic landmarks such as the Imperial Palace and St. Stephan’s Cathedral. The State Opera, a cornerstone of Vienna’s musical identity, is renowned not only for its exceptional performances but also for hosting the grandeur of the Opera Ball. This iconic event kicks off each year with the timeless words, “Alles Walzer!” – a nod to Vienna’s waltz tradition and the illustrious Strauss Dynasty.

4. The Albertina

Duration: 90 minutes guided tour
(no walking tour, only visit of museum)

The Albertina Museum stands proudly among the world’s most influential art institutions, renowned for its exceptional graphic collection. Within its walls, you’ll encounter masterpieces like Dürer’s “The Field Hare” and “Hands Folded for Prayer,” Rubens’ studies of children, and works by Schiele, Cézanne, Klimt, Kokoschka, Picasso, and Rauschenberg, all featured in ever-evolving exhibitions.

Once a grand residence of the Habsburgs, the Albertina now commands its place at the southern end of the Imperial Palace, serving as Vienna’s last bastion of cultural excellence. The permanent exhibition “The Collection Batliner” traces the journey from Impressionism to Modernism with approximately 100 artworks, featuring luminaries like Monet, Picasso, and many more.
